Development Update with Unreal Engine 5 Announce!

December 24, 2021

On Thursday, December 23, 2021, we had quite a long December Development Update! Our biggest news towards the progress on creating the ambitious MMORPG Ashes of Creation was that we are now developing on the Unreal Engine 5 (UE5)! In this update, we went over what this means. We want to express that at the forefront, this will take us time to fix bugs and get all the kinks out, but this has already been underway. As you can see in our update, we already have gameplay to show you as we have begun the transition! In the long run, UE5 is going to allow us to develop at a much faster pace with some really nice tools for our development team. We will be sharing more information about how this transition transpired via a future update in collaboration with Unreal, so keep up with us on your social platform of choice!

That’s not all that we had to share with you this month! We also provided an update on performance with our conversion to UE5. In September’s update, we showcased some of the work towards this endeavor and now you can see how much progress has occurred with 1300 characters displaying random armors, environment elements, particle FX, and animations. Beyond that, we continued to share more of the glorious artwork our environment and character art teams have created, and then wrapped up the year answering your questions!

Reminder that Ashes of Creation is an open and transparent development project. As such, you will see work-in-progress art, systems, and mechanics. Leave us your thoughts on our progress in the video comments!
