Among the few volumes spared by the fires of the Apocalypse, the Heartwood Codex endures as one of the most sacred treasures of the Py’Rai elves. This living tome appears to possess a will of its own, unfurling hidden thorns and strangling roots in fierce defense whenever peril draws near. Set into the thick leather cover rests a gem of translucent resin, honey-gold and warm to the touch. This is the Miril Calad, or “Jewel of Radiance,” said to ward against evil and supernatural threats from beyond the forest. The Heartwood Codex forms a unique covenant with any who wield it–a symbiotic bond that awakens a long-forgotten magic as old as the forest itself. Neither crafted nor scribed by mortal hands, it is said to be a gift from the Gods, containing the raw, untamed powers of Creation itself.
