Winter's Nevermore

December 13, 2022

“The Tale of Winter’s Nevermore” is a popular tavern song of Snowstead, a picturesque village nestled in the frozen Northlands. The ballad relates to the legend of the white dragon Frijah, known by many as the Iceheart Dragon and reserved for the coldest of winter nights. She slumbers in her lair atop the highest of the snowy crags of the mountains surrounding the village. Many brave adventurers have set out to scale the towering peak, hoping to do battle with the wicked wyrm. The legend of Winter’s Nevermore claims that if the Iceheart Dragon is defeated it will lift a great curse and bring about an end to all winters, extending the growing season, providing Snowstead with a bountiful, and abundant harvest forevermore.

The Winter’s Nevermore cosmetic add-ons will be available in the Ashes of Creation shop from December 14, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. Pacific until January 11, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. Pacific. Don’t forget that Wardens in the Wild addons will be removed on December 14, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. Pacific when the new cosmetics swap over.

Iceheart Corsage

Accessory Cosmetic Skin *

The trek to the Iceheart Dragon’s roost is a journey of several weeks for the Dwarves of the Northland. For the other Exalted races it is longer still, and the return journey is even more arduous. The Iceheart Corsage is a finely-wrought one-handed gauntlet of white dragonscale, sculpted in the visage of Frijah - the Iceheart Dragon herself. The glove, blessed by the celestial dragon God Tatzelwyrm itself, is thought to provide protection from all dragonkind, and is therefore highly-prized and sought after by any who would dare face the Iceheart Dragon.

Pinfeather Aviator

Pet Cosmetic Skin *

In the cerulean sky high above the ice-capped mountains of the Northland where the icy downslope winds are their most turbulent is where the Pinfeather Aviator makes its home. The appearance of these one-eyed scavengers of carrion are considered an ill omen for adventurers scaling the perilous Northland peaks. Most often they appear suddenly, circling above potential prey like demonic vultures. The creatures await the single misstep or accidental loss of balance that will spell tragedy for the climber, but provide a feast for the Aviator and its ravenous nestlings. The oily sheen of the Aviator’s plumage is presumed to be residue from the glacial tar pools where these birds of prey bathe their feathers. While the glaciers of the Northlands are home to these scavengers of the snow, these one-eyed vultures are not often sighted in their native habitat by those less destined to become their next meal.

Alpine Baghorn

Mount Cosmetic Skin *

The Alpine Baghorn is a domesticated creature specifically bred to thrive in the frigid climate of the Northlands. Wild Baghorns can be found grazing in small herds on the tundra’s frosted vegetation. Once domesticated, these beasts of burden are the perfect choice to carry a merchant’s wares through the drifting snow and perilous squalls that frequent the mountain passes. Their thick, animated, and unusually long tails are highly prized by smugglers, and any who seek to travel with discretion, for they naturally sweep the ground in their wake, wiping away their tracks and hiding any signs of their passage. Baghorns are well suited for caravaners braving the bitter cold to stock the Northland warehouses with enough supplies for the local populace to survive the cold season due to their strong, reliable, and sure-footedness.

Winterscale Jerkin

Costume Cosmetic Skin *

In mid-winter, life in the village of Snowstead can be harsh and unforgiving. The frigid winter winds that are as cold as frozen iron seep through armor and the layers of clothing beneath, draining the soul with its icy touch. For heroes seeking to do combat with the unrelenting cold and the great Iceheart Dragon, there is no finer protection than that of the Winterscale Jerkin. This finely-crafted form-fitting jerkin of white dragonscale is lined and trimmed with the finest snow-white fur, providing warmth, style, and protection from the elements; as well as protection from the biting teeth and razor sharp talons of the fearsome beast of legend.

Dragonborne’s Maid

Naval Cosmetic Skin *

The Dragonborne’s Maid is an icebreaker - a special-purpose ship designed to move and navigate through ice-covered waters. Icebreakers have three traits that most normal ships lack: a strengthened hull, an ice-clearing shape, and the power to push through sea ice. The Maid’s fortified hull can clear a path through frozen waters by pushing straight into the pack ice. In cases of very thick ice, the vessel can drive its bow up and onto the ice to break it under the weight of the ship. At its fore, the ship’s carved wooden figurehead stylized in the visage of a fiercely-charging dragon has led armed flotillas to countless battles on the churning whitecaps of distant seas. Although in the frigid waters of the North, it must brave treacherous ice flows, face black-hearted ocean marauders, and do battle with tentacled monstrosities of the deep at every turn.

Grim Rising

Freehold Small House Building Cosmetic Skin *

Cyan tendrils of garthbane, a frosty lichen native to the northern tundra, cling to the ancient stone bricks of Grim Rising. This tower is a vestigial built in ages past in the far reaches of the Northlands. The ancient spire once contained prisoners of House Lyneth - the fallen rulers of the nascent Aelan Empire. Lyneth’s enemies were banished to the frozen Northlands and imprisoned in the nearly inescapable tower. Some captives died under the lash and some became sustenance for the Iceheart Dragon…and they were the fortunate ones as the vast majority starved, or froze to death in the tower’s barren unheated cells. To this day it is said that the prison stronghold remains haunted by their restless tortured spirits. Perhaps one day, Grim Rising might be reopened. Will it be given a new and peaceful purpose, or will the tormented spirits within demand additional lost souls to bolster their coterie of damnation?
