In the heart of autumn as temperatures fall, the Niküa set their sails to warmer seas: home waters. Though crops grow year-round on the islands of eternal summer, Wayfinders heed the call of the annual Tidehearth to reap the hearty bounties of a homecoming wreathed in the glories of their exploits.

A Home-Waters Homecoming cosmetic add-ons will be available in the Ashes of Creation shop from November 3, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. Pacific until December 8, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. Pacific. Don’t forget that The Dying of the Light addons will be removed on November 3, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. Pacific when the new cosmetics swap over.

The Heartstone

To be Niküa, whether in body or soul, is to take a part of your home on your voyages as a reminder of those left waiting. This stone serves as an oath to someday return, making one’s family whole and honoring the Tidehearth. The weight of this responsibility bears down upon the shoulders of every true Wayfinder quite literally, as elders carve large, intricate pendants for “unbrined” youngsters before their first expeditions.

It is said among the Ocean’s Chosen that the spirit of the cerulean waters may sometimes make its physical form known to struggling or desperate sailors, helping them find their way home. The reality is that these mischievous water sprites are fickle as fey - just as likely to dance with the carrion gulls awaiting their meal as proffer some seafaring salvation.

Saltspine

Mount Cosmetic Skin *

A Saltspine is a noble, if indifferent, steed - its brilliant sapphire skin a perfect match for the seas and skies. Domestication is arduous, and even seasoned riders may find themselves falling and watching as their mount skips, leaps, and scampers across the wet and rocky shores of the Niküan home waters. With their clawed feet, muscular bodies, and resilience in the face of salty sprays and grating sands, Saltspines are the best way for Niküa to go where boats cannot bear them.

Like the tides upon which they depend, Niküans themselves must flow forth and cover new lands and then ebb to the waters of their origin. A Seasinger is a herald of the homecoming season - Tidehearth - across the home islands, and also a form of navigator aboard Niküan boats. They guide their people to safety through turbulent seas, both on the ocean without and the “ocean within”, when fervency on long voyages reaches a high-water mark.

Tidehearth is, first and foremost, a celebration of reunification. In the weeks leading up to the great feast, it is customary for “unbrined” children that have yet to earn their sails and the elderly that have since passed theirs on to work together, preparing great floats upon which to bear their weary loved ones from their landings to the inland villages. Great shocks of color - the bolder, the better - dot the beaches in appreciation and anticipation of welcoming these Wayfinders home.

Not all Niküans live in wooden huts with grass-thatched roofs, traditional structures often crafted with the tropical bounties at their doorsteps. Rather, some prefer to adhere to the stonework of their ancestors to great effect.
